movedYou know how about a month ago that I was saying Manders and I were gonna have our own .com? Well, because of a few things, we couldn’t. But thanks to Manders winning a Visa gift card, we finally were able to! What happened was that we had our hosting site, just not our own domains. What can I say, we’ve never done this before.

Now, I have one current giveaway here and will have another one here as well. I had originally signed up for that specific giveaway with THIS blog (the other one didn’t exist yet) and since most of my readers know where to go for reviews/giveaways, I thought that it would seem a lot easier for them to enter than to have to switch blogs. Speaking of which, if you have signed up via e-mail through THIS specific blog, you will have to subscribe to the other one and unsubscribe from this one. After these 2 giveaways, I will no longer be posting on this one. You don’t need to subscribe to the other one right now as I don’t have everything where it should be.

If you’re interested in seeing the new Texas Banter, head over to TexasBanter.com!

blogging

I have started thinking outside the box- Texas Banter can only go so far with just 1 person. So I have decided that I will be accepting only 2 guest spots for Texas Banter posts. The criteria is as follows:

*You must have a WordPress.com membership or sign up. You don’t have to use your blog, just sign up.

*You MUST own a blog or have a blog writing experience.

*If you are a “Mommy Blogger”, I ask that you don’t post your children’s information on Texas Banter. While this isn’t a “kid-free” zone, it may  confuse some readers as I don’t have children.

* Send your information -name, blog URL, recent posts, e-mail, and WordPress username- to texasbanter@ymail.com with the subject “TB Guest Blogger”.

With that being said, if you are also interested in having Texas Banter as guest blogger, feel free to e-mail me at the aforementioned e-mail with the subject “Guest Blogger” with your blog name, theme, link, and what you expect from me. I do have a Blogger/Blogspot username.

Now before you think that my family and I are moving, take a deep relaxing breath. Texas Banter is moving! Very soon, I will have my very own .com. This shouldn’t happen for a couple of days/weeks so don’t worry. I decided to make it easier for my readers to find me instead of a big long URL to type in. It will be texasbanter.com. Kinda cool, huh?

You will still be able to find all my posts once I get the website up. Any giveaways going on when we go .com will still be held via THIS website. I don’t want to take away people’s chances of winning some cool prizes. If anyone has any questions, don’t hesitate to e-mail me, Twitter, or leave a message.

Thanks to Confetti Dreams, I thought I would end Christmas In July here at Texas Banter with some of my favorite songs. I know it seems like I am copying her, but c’mon! She’s my twin! She has some of the best ideas!

But it was VERY hard to choose my Top 10 all-time favorite Christmas songs. It’s like asking someone who loves chocolate to choose their favorite piece. It’s impossible! But here goes:

10. The Christmas Song by Luther Vandross – I consider Luther Vandross a legend when it comes to love songs. While “The Christmas Song” isn’t exactly a love song, it can sure turn into one. When I hear him sing it, I just want to sit by a fire with someone and cuddle. It’s always been a favorite of mine, even if it isn’t sung by Vandross. But his rendition will always remain a favorite of mine.

9. Christmas Cookies by George Strait – I am not afraid to say that I listen to country, especially George Strait. We own every Christmas album George has put out and know every song by heart. While “Frosty the Snowman”  and “All I Want For Christmas (Is My Two Front Teeth” are so greatly sung by this King of Country, I prefer “Christmas Cookies”. It’s hilarious and you can just feel the Christmas magic when you hear it. Sure he doesn’t talk about Christmas trees or decorations and it’s more about cookies, you know it’s Christmas.

8. Let It Snow ’98 by Brian McKnight – I absolutely love Brian McKnight. When he sings Christmas songs, you get the feeling of Christmas. It just feels a lot more like Christmas when you hear him crooning out songs that are filled with magic. And considering he sings it with Boyz II Men just makes it that much more wonderful!

7. O Come All Ye Faithful/O Holy Night by Trans-Siberian OrchestraYou’re probably wondering why I didn’t choose “Wizards in Winter” from Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Well, it’s widely used and not a lot of people know about their other works, which are amazing. I have this CD and I have loved it ever since. I wish I could see them live.

6. Believe by Josh Groban – This is from “The Polar Express”, which is an amazing movie. But this song is so powerful and you can just feel what Groban is feeling. This song gives me chills every time I hear it. It will forever remain a favorite and one that I will play for years to come.

5. Heavy Metal Christmas (The Twelve Days of Christmas) by Twisted Sister -I am a metalhead through and through. But because I enjoy all kinds of music, this ranks #5 on my list. I love Twisted Sister’s Christmas album “Twisted Christmas” because its Christmas and it’s metal, what more could ya ask for? But this song is somewhat humorous. Instead of 5 golden rings and and 2 turtle doves, Twisted Sister gets 5 skull earrings and 2 pairs of spandex pants. It’s heavy metal the magic of Christmas! Oh yea!

4. This Christmas by Jagged Edge – Now you should already know that Jagged Edge would have been on the list somewhere. This isn’t the song you hear from Elliot Yamin or Chris Brown. This has different lyrics and a different feel, but one that I enjoy so much. Their harmony just brings out the song that no one can compete with. Once I play it on my iPod this Holiday season, there it will stay!

3. Here Comes Santa Claus by Gene Autry – Manders forgot about this one! It’s a classic and I love classics! I remember when I was little and our parents had an old record player and old Christmas records. Every time Christmas came, we would put that album on and turn it to this song because we just loved it. In 1946, he wrote the song because of a Christmas Parade in Los Angeles. Pretty cool, huh?

2. Winter Wonderland by George Strait – You can’t deny that George Strait is great! I love this song, especially when George sings it! He brings a fun vibe and it just feels like Christmas! I’m surprised Sissy forgot to add it to her list! But then again, she wouldn’t have to. She could just add every single Christmas album by the King of Country!

1.  Here We Come A-Wassailing – So many people sing this but I still love it! It’s a fun song and so much fun to sing! It’s joyful and so cheerful, that you can’t help but feel happiness when you sing it with friends. No one knows exactly when it was written or it’s exact origin, but to know that it is still sung through the centuries just to show that it’s such a great song!

I appreciate everyone joining all of us for our first Christmas in July event! It was so much fun that we have decided to do more events! We will have a Halloween event starting the first week of October, maybe a Thanksgiving event, but definitely Christmas will be our 3rd major event (considering Manders and I love Halloween and we plan to make it a major event as well). We hope you enjoyed everything and our memories!

It’s almost that time- almost time to go back to school! Parents are buying their children school supplies and furniture for their college students who have decided to live off campus. Everyone remembers the basic necessities for furniture: couches, beds, chairs, desks, and televisions. But let’s not forget another basic necessity for computer desks- that all important office chair!  CSNChairs.com has an amazing array of office chairs for just about almost any price. They have the executive chair, reception area chair, classroom, and even folding chairs. So if you’re looking for a specific office chair for a specific purpose, you can bet that CSNChairs.com is the place to go!

But as a college student, you read a lot. And where are you going to put all those books you accumulate during your years at college? That’s right, a bookcase! CSN Office Furniture has you covered! They have all sorts of office furniture for your basic office furniture needs! If you need a basic computer desk with nothing too fancy, they have hundreds of basic computer desks for under $450, which is practically a steal! You can’t find that anywhere else. I have a computer desk and a computer chair. But I have tons of books and nowhere to put them! That’s where the Mylex Five Shelf Bookcase comes in handy. Thanks to our friends at CSN Office Furniture, we are giving one (1) Texas Banter reader the chance to win the MyLex Five Shelf Bookcase in Black! So what do you have to do to win this amazing back-to-school necessity?

Go to CSN Office Furniture, come back and tell me what item you would LOVE to have!

More Christmas in July! If everything turns out just like we want it, we’ll have product reviews, giveaways, shopping ideas so you can get all your Christmas shopping done before the Holiday rush, craft ideas, and maybe some decorating ideas!

We are still looking for a few more sponsors to help us with giveaways. If you are interested in sponsoring one of our Christmas in July product reviews/giveaways, please refer to PR Information and look for “Event PR”.

If you are a blogger wanting to participate in this year’s “Christmas In July” event, please refer to the following (from Confetti Dreams):

  • # Through out July (starting the 1st and ending the 31st), create a few posts that deal with Christmas. This can be your favorite memory, your favorite/least favorite gift, craft ideas, recipes, reviews, or giveaways. You can get as creative as you want!
  • # Before each post, either put “Christmas in July” or “CIJ” so we know which post to look for.
  • # Confetti Dreams might have the cheap version of Mr Linky, so once you are done posting, you can post it there.
  • # By the end of this week, Confetti Dreams will have made a button for every participating blogger to place on their blog. Confetti Dreams will of course put it in this post so you can see it and grab it.

Any blogs that are interested but have more questions, e-mail me at texasbanter@ymail.com with the subject “CIJ Participating” and I will get back to you as soon as I can. We are still working with sponsors for giveaways and product reviews. If you have any ideas for sponsors to contact, shoot us an e-mail the aforementioned with the subject “CIJ Sponsor Idea”.

Any problems with Mr. Linky will result in a post on Confetti Dreams with a list of participating blogs.

Keep Eyes Peeled… May 9, 2009

I wanted to let my readers know to keep your eyes peeled!

“For what?” you may ask.

As soon as I am feeling better, I will be reviewing another product. What happened the last time I reviewed a product? That’s right, I held a giveaway. I cannot tell you what the giveaway is for because I haven’t reviewed the product yet. But once I review the product and post the review, my readers (that’s you!) will be able to enter once more for the chance to win something from yours truly!

So what made me want to start holding giveaways?

Well, it all started back when Zeus was in his accident. My readers banded together and decided to keep happy thoughts through out my blog even when my family thought we would lose him. I wanted to give back in some way but couldn’t personally afford to give everyone something. So I thought again. I remembered seeing blogs holding giveaways and I thought it was a bright idea. While not everyone wins, it’s the thought that counts!

This next giveaway won’t be the last either. There will be plenty to come!

So… keep your eyes peeled for another Texas Banter Giveaway!

For those that don’t remember, I help Twin with the blog TwinTastic– which is pretty much a look into the lives of two twins. From their point of view, of course. I was updating it and posting because the last time we posted, Manders did a review of the Yanni Voices CD. So I decided to look back at all the posts we made until I came upon something that made me die of embarrassment. I saw that Twin had posted back on October 21st of last year a picture of us when we were toddlers and a current picture of us at that time. I won’t post them to save me the embarrassment but I was shocked.

Why?

Because one look at the old picture and one look at the 2008 picture put things into perspective: We have changed so much! There was a little girl in the picture with us and believe it or not, we are still unbelievably close to her! “C”, who was the little girl in the picture, has remained one of our best friends ever since we were pretty much born. Even if she is 3 months younger, we played together since we were little. It’s absolutely amazing that after all this time, you are still friends with someone you grew up with and still see them! I haven’t seen “C” since she moved in October but in about 6 days, I will get to. Remember in a previous posts that she’s coming May 8th.

Even as I look at Twin and I at 4 and now 20 years later, we’re still close. Hell, we’re more likely closer than we’ve ever been. Check out TwinTastic, and you’ll see what I mean.

Words seem to escape me now. I am usually witty but alas, I have nothing. My posts must have become boring because I haven’t even received 1 comment unless I remind my sister to read my blog (as I regularly check hers). How sad that I am reduced to even asking Manders to read my blog. I get readers but not commenters.

I usually have no problem with words, if you haven’t noticed. In fact, I’ve been told I talk a lot so I know that isn’t the problem. Maybe I am starting to talk about things that have no real value as far as information or resources. Hell, Manders could talk about being a meteorologist and get retweeted. Why can’t I talk about stuff that excites people? Who cares if I’m reading some book that has everyone gaga? It’s nothing new. Who cares if I dream of vampires and magic?

True, I am only 24 and can’t post about studying or Smokie all the time. I may not have a super exciting life but damnit, I tend to have super exciting moments. And when I had those super exciting moments, I would write about them. True, Chris Cagle dreams hardly count as super exciting but hey, I couldn’t resist.

Maybe I’ll post my dreams of being a storm chaser or ghost hunter one of these days. Think that will rake in a few true comments? I just had a great idea. Yea, I’ll do that.

Eating before bed… April 21, 2009

Around midnight, I was hungry. I hadn’t really eaten since noon so I decided to get a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I obviously did not remember the fabulous line every mother tells their children: “Do not eat an hour before bed or you will have bad dreams.”. Now, that rule doesn’t usually apply to me unless it’s by some freak accident.

After watching a little bit of Futurama, I decided to go to sleep- which was only 30 minutes after eating. I shouldn’t have eaten that sandwich before bed. I had the most weird dreams! It was where I was bitten by a vampire but instead of turning into some ugly looking-creature that books have made vampires out to be, I turned into this beautiful countess with a flowing white dress that had a blood red bodice. But little did I realize that in my dreams, I was dreaming that. Because upon awakening in my dream, I said I was going to write a book about the dream I just had and blog about it. I was going to call the book “Magick” because of the dream’s Pagan backgrounds and the blog “Vampires, oh my!”.

I don’t know where the vampire came from and I don’t know where the book thing came from. I know where the blog part came from because I was just in the living room as Manders was writing a post. Maybe it was “Magic’s Biggest Secrets Finally Revealed” I watched before bed. I now find magic fake due to this. But it’s so interesting to see what magicians use for their biggest tricks.

I have the weirdest dreams. I think I will until the day I die. I wonder what’s for lunch.

I was nabbed by my good friend Linda at Crone and Bear It for a game of 8 tag. I love stuff like this so you know I’m game!.  So here we go:
8 things I’m looking forward to:

1. Start the local community college and off to Georgetown, Texas I go to finish up at Southwestern University for Animal Science!
2. Having my first bloggy giveaway! (Now if only I could hurry up and receive the product I’m supposed to review!)
3. Spring storms to come- remember, I live for these!
4. Zeus getting his harness and new leash so maybe he wouldn’t chew on his leash and pull us.

5. Getting back to where my hair is black all the time (instead of my dark brown roots showing and overtaking my hair!)

6. Having a new car to play with for college!

7. Finally finishing “Fool” by Christopher Moore (late 17th century English slang makes me confused.)
8. Losing a few pounds- what woman doesn’t want to, right?

8 things I did yesterday:

1. Twittered.
2. Did errands.
3. Give the doggy a bath.
4. Read some.
5. Spent time blogging.
6. Told Manders she was as fun as a “kitten playing with yarn”.
7. Spent time on SuperPoke Pets (my new obsession).
8. TRIED to review a CD on the iPod until I realized not all the songs were on it. (That helps in NO way.)

8 things I wish I could do:

1. Learn how to organize so everything I own isn’t in some random box or all over the desk.
2. Constantly hold bloggy giveaways (because I like to give. LOL)

3. Make a stranger’s day everyday!

4. Learn to speak German. (All I know is enough to say “good day”, “good afternoon”, and “good night”… oh, and my last name (which means “child”.))
5. Vacation in Scotland!
6. Teach Zeus to sit, stay, and “No”.
7. Become well-known in computers so I could build my own.
8. Figure out the secret to men.

8 shows I watch:

1. Bizarre Foods
2. Family Guy
3. Futurama
4. Roseanne
5. Taboo
6. Ghost Hunters
7. Weird Travels
8. Unwrapped
8 people I tag:

1. Confetti Dreams
2. Midwest Mom
3. The Good, the Bad, the Ugly
4. Anyone who wants to play
5. Anyone who wants to play
6. Anyone who wants to play
7. Anyone who wants to play
8. And anyone else who wants to play

I obviously don’t have a lot of personal “blogging” friends so I am stuck with figuring out those who do check out my blog. So if any readers want to play, feel free to do so! Now that I have no witty or charming answers- play!

Post your own answers to the questions in each category, including 8 people you want to tag. Have fun!

Lately I’ve been hammering on and on about wanting to review products and possibly hold a giveaway. Everyone else is doing it- it sounds like fun! And you know me- I’m all about fun. I’m the epitome of fun. I even have fun when I sleep. Ok, so not really but you get the idea.

As I was going down the list of other blog buttons and reading them, I stopped and wondered- maybe I could have a Texas Banter Reviews blog. But I stopped myself. I just can’t handle another blog. I update this one daily, Frugal Sissy weekly, and TwinTastic whenever I can remember. On top of that, I have to study for college AND find out what kind of business my family can start. Oy!  What was I thinking? You’d figure that after over 200 posts on here, several on the others, and College Algebra that my brain would be fried. But remember- I’m witty!

Of course, I’m still looking for products to review. I have a product from BzzAgent to review but it’s a Clean & Clear Makeup Removal kit so that will have to wait when I paint my pretty face for the boys. Who knows when that will be. Makeup + cold = weird complexion. I learned that the hard way one day. I was sick with a cold and when I’m sick, I’m pale. So I thought putting a darker foundation would help. Boy was I wrong! It looked like my face had tanned while I had on longjohns. But when I review the product (on BzzAgent as well on TB), I’ll get lucky and get more inquiries for a review/giveaway.

I still wish I could get rid of this cold and wish the dog would take a nap. He’s grumpy and needs one. So do I.
