Santa and His Wish List

It happens every year, even before it can become summer- everyone starts coming up with a Christmas wishlist. That new phone comes out and everyone wants it. That new video game system comes out and everyone wants one. That new DVD comes out and they want to be surprised with it at Christmas. Well, help your friends and family take out the guesswork of figuring out what you would like for Christmas!

At Amazon, you can create your own wishlist with whatever you find you want on Amazon and even send it to all your friends and family. Nothing is limited to your wishlist. And you can even put how many you want of a certain item, how many you’ve received of that item, and that priority of it. So let’s say you put a Kurt Adler Irish Large Nutcracker (that’s in my wishlist). They go for about $30 and you want 2 for whatever reason. Under Desired, you put a 2. If you’ve received 1 a few weeks after, put a 1 under Received. You have a choice of Highest, High, Medium, Low, and Lowest for Priority so choose wisely!

If the item you want isn’t at Amazon, but another website or store, go to Christmas Wishlist and register. This is quite simple because all you have to do is add a short description, a longer one (if you choose), the optional URL and the “Rank by Importance”. Like the Amazon Wishlist, you can e-mail to all your family and friends. You can also invite others to join you in the search for that perfect gift.

Wal-Mart and Target both have Wishlists, though I haven’t used them. Hot Topic and other stores also have a wishlist, but Hot Topic changes their inventory on their website so often that what you want could possibly be sold out by tomorrow. If you are interested in see if Macy’s has a wishlist, Google “Macy’s Wishlist”.

Wishlisttr is another great place to hold your Christmas wishlist, as well as a Birthday wishlist or even your anniversary wishlist. You can give it any title you want. It’s pretty simple. All you have to do name your wish, give the link URL, and a short description of what exactly it is you want, though the description is optional. Dream of This Wishlists will seem a little more complicated at first but they give you so many choices, especially Item Category and Price so you can tell your family and friends exactly how much it costs so there aren’t any surprises. You can move and item from list to list, you can send it to everyone, and they even have a page for Gift Ideas. Though it is based in the UK and they offer Pounds for a price, it looks like a good place to put a wishlist of any kind.

But I still prefer the Amazon Wishlist.

santa-secretThanks to Sand Dune Publishing, secrets between others at Christmas is now a thing of the past! But telling those secrets won’t be broadcasted for the rest of the family to hear!

Between Me and You Journals are a great way to ask those burning questions you’ve been wanting to know but have been scared to ask! These keepsake journals to the people you care about most. Each hardcover, spiral-bound book contains 35 – 45 fun-to-ask and fun-to-answer questions. What happens is that you give the book is a loved one (Mom, Dad, Sister, Brother, Friend, etc.). You tell them to answer the questions in the book HONESTLY, and hand it back to you. What you get back is their answer to those questions like “If you could relive one moment from our past, what would it be?”.

It makes a great gift for “gift swapping” since you will receive a book back once your recipient has answered their questions. It even has lined paper in the back for note-writing and for other stuff you don’t want others to see. Even if you don’t talk to your brother or favorite aunt very much, these journals will relight that fire and bring more interaction between the two of you. The books are divided into 6 chapters, each concerning a different phase of life or relationship. Asked in a comfortable, conversational tone and many times with a sense of humor, the questions are specific enough to elicit some wonderful personal information yet general enough so that anyone will find them relevant to his or her own relationship.

If a particular question or area doesn’t fit your relationship with the recipient, just tear out the pages! That way there are no awkward answers for the questions that have not relevance to your relationship. If you are a parent but your children are little, fill it out and give it to them when they are older so they don’t have to find a way to ask those questions children are nervous to ask their parents.

So if you’re wanting to find a way to ask those personal questions but you’re afraid to and it’s hard to shop for that person, why not give them a Between Me and You Journal from Sand Dune Publishing? And forget shipping! Enter the code “Texas Banter” to receive FREE SHIPPING!

Keep Eyes Peeled… May 9, 2009

I wanted to let my readers know to keep your eyes peeled!

“For what?” you may ask.

As soon as I am feeling better, I will be reviewing another product. What happened the last time I reviewed a product? That’s right, I held a giveaway. I cannot tell you what the giveaway is for because I haven’t reviewed the product yet. But once I review the product and post the review, my readers (that’s you!) will be able to enter once more for the chance to win something from yours truly!

So what made me want to start holding giveaways?

Well, it all started back when Zeus was in his accident. My readers banded together and decided to keep happy thoughts through out my blog even when my family thought we would lose him. I wanted to give back in some way but couldn’t personally afford to give everyone something. So I thought again. I remembered seeing blogs holding giveaways and I thought it was a bright idea. While not everyone wins, it’s the thought that counts!

This next giveaway won’t be the last either. There will be plenty to come!

So… keep your eyes peeled for another Texas Banter Giveaway!

For those that don’t remember, I help Twin with the blog TwinTastic– which is pretty much a look into the lives of two twins. From their point of view, of course. I was updating it and posting because the last time we posted, Manders did a review of the Yanni Voices CD. So I decided to look back at all the posts we made until I came upon something that made me die of embarrassment. I saw that Twin had posted back on October 21st of last year a picture of us when we were toddlers and a current picture of us at that time. I won’t post them to save me the embarrassment but I was shocked.

Why?

Because one look at the old picture and one look at the 2008 picture put things into perspective: We have changed so much! There was a little girl in the picture with us and believe it or not, we are still unbelievably close to her! “C”, who was the little girl in the picture, has remained one of our best friends ever since we were pretty much born. Even if she is 3 months younger, we played together since we were little. It’s absolutely amazing that after all this time, you are still friends with someone you grew up with and still see them! I haven’t seen “C” since she moved in October but in about 6 days, I will get to. Remember in a previous posts that she’s coming May 8th.

Even as I look at Twin and I at 4 and now 20 years later, we’re still close. Hell, we’re more likely closer than we’ve ever been. Check out TwinTastic, and you’ll see what I mean.

I hate dreams… April 25, 2009

I had a dream last night that I wouldn’t constitute as disturbing but it got my attention.

I know why “C” was there- the whole MySpace and blog thing last night. I already knew that I would most likely dream about it because I was so excited. But there was one person that I didn’t expect to see in my dream.

“Cyber Guy” was there. I hadn’t talked to him in a while and I really hadn’t been thinking about him. I had been preoccupied with “C” coming down, finding a place to put the van, and reading the Twilight series. He hadn’t really crossed my mind in a long while.

But in the dream, “C” was visiting like I told you and we were having fun driving around town. All of a sudden, I see “Cyber Guy’s” white truck driving past us. We parked in some parking lot while he make a U-Turn and drove right into the parking lot. He stopped right beside our truck and got out. He went to my side of the car and opened the door. I got out and gave him a hug. He gave a kiss and even when the kiss ended, he held me. I introduced him to “C” and he greeted Manders. He didn’t act like he did last time- nervous. He didn’t act like we were even friends. He acted like we were more.

I woke up knowing why “C” was in my dream but I still have no clue why he was and why he acted the way he did. I had gotten it outta my mind that we would probably just ending remaining friends. I accepted that and moved on. It has bothered me all day because I am curious as to why he would come into a dream when I hadn’t dreamt of him in months!

I hate dreams like those. It’s kind of weird. Really weird.

I was nabbed by my good friend Linda at Crone and Bear It for a game of 8 tag. I love stuff like this so you know I’m game!.  So here we go:
8 things I’m looking forward to:

1. Start the local community college and off to Georgetown, Texas I go to finish up at Southwestern University for Animal Science!
2. Having my first bloggy giveaway! (Now if only I could hurry up and receive the product I’m supposed to review!)
3. Spring storms to come- remember, I live for these!
4. Zeus getting his harness and new leash so maybe he wouldn’t chew on his leash and pull us.

5. Getting back to where my hair is black all the time (instead of my dark brown roots showing and overtaking my hair!)

6. Having a new car to play with for college!

7. Finally finishing “Fool” by Christopher Moore (late 17th century English slang makes me confused.)
8. Losing a few pounds- what woman doesn’t want to, right?

8 things I did yesterday:

1. Twittered.
2. Did errands.
3. Give the doggy a bath.
4. Read some.
5. Spent time blogging.
6. Told Manders she was as fun as a “kitten playing with yarn”.
7. Spent time on SuperPoke Pets (my new obsession).
8. TRIED to review a CD on the iPod until I realized not all the songs were on it. (That helps in NO way.)

8 things I wish I could do:

1. Learn how to organize so everything I own isn’t in some random box or all over the desk.
2. Constantly hold bloggy giveaways (because I like to give. LOL)

3. Make a stranger’s day everyday!

4. Learn to speak German. (All I know is enough to say “good day”, “good afternoon”, and “good night”… oh, and my last name (which means “child”.))
5. Vacation in Scotland!
6. Teach Zeus to sit, stay, and “No”.
7. Become well-known in computers so I could build my own.
8. Figure out the secret to men.

8 shows I watch:

1. Bizarre Foods
2. Family Guy
3. Futurama
4. Roseanne
5. Taboo
6. Ghost Hunters
7. Weird Travels
8. Unwrapped
8 people I tag:

1. Confetti Dreams
2. Midwest Mom
3. The Good, the Bad, the Ugly
4. Anyone who wants to play
5. Anyone who wants to play
6. Anyone who wants to play
7. Anyone who wants to play
8. And anyone else who wants to play

I obviously don’t have a lot of personal “blogging” friends so I am stuck with figuring out those who do check out my blog. So if any readers want to play, feel free to do so! Now that I have no witty or charming answers- play!

Post your own answers to the questions in each category, including 8 people you want to tag. Have fun!

Remember how I said in a previous post that if everything worked out that I could possibly be selling candles? Nevermind that.

I got some information and the price of the start-up kit. Wasn’t bad. But it went on to say that I would automatically be enrolled in the “Candle of the Month” Club, in which I would be billed $40 per month (plus shipping and handling). The initial start-up package price I could handle. But my family can’t afford the $40 a month for a “Candle of the Month” deal.

Now I am at a loss on what to do. I can’t have a normal job due to medical issues. Back to the drawing board I do.

Oh yea, guess the chance of me and Cyber Guy getting together is not happening. Turns out that he may be moving to Louisiana for a business opportunity. He tried to reassure me that he would come back to Texas on his days off (I guess to see his parents). But somehow, I still felt a sinking feeling. I’m destined to be remain single for the rest of my life.

I still love candles though.

Nope, still no computer. I’m hoping that will change soon. I have a sinus infection so I don’t feel 100% but needed to do some research so I dragged myself o the library.

I probably won’t post tomorrow. The weather is supposed to be stormy and I plan to stay home. I wish our computer worked. That way I could possibly post pictures of lightning. I highly doubt it but you never know.

Oh yeah. By the way, if everything works out, I could possibly be selling gourmet candles soon. Yay! I love candles, what can I say.

I hope everyone is doing well. I miss each and every one of you and promise to start commenting again soon.

Aside from my family’s whole computer fiasco, something good came out of this!

4 Guys and a Gal decided to grace me with a blog award! It’s the official “When Life Hands You Lemons” award! Well, the way things are going, I can make enough lemonade for all my blogging friends and the military! But in all seriousness, this couldn’t have made a more appropriate appearance! Thank you Amber!

For some reason, I am having trouble finding a sponsor to hold the giveaway!

I know it’s scary to sponsor a “newbie” giveaway, but that’s how most blog giveaways get started, right? I’m not holding this giveaway just to hold a giveaway, ya know what I mean? My readers (invisible or otherwise) have been so kind- offering words of encouragement when Zeus got into that accident, when I had heartbreaks, when I had a new crush, when I threw that bowling ball at my friend, when Christmas rolled around, when I turned 24, when I didn’t know what to do with my life.

I don’t consider this giveaway to be selfish and I’m not doing it to raise traffic to my blog. That’s what I have you guys for. 😉 I am merely doing this because you all have been with me this past year and I want to give back to you all in some way, shape, or form. Ain’t I nice?

Now with that being said-

If you would like to sponsor my VERY first giveaway, please e-mail at texas_heartland84[at]yahoo[dot]com. We can discuss the matters there. But think about this: You are helping a young woman who wants to give back to her avid readers but needs your help. Your store/products/website will gain amazing volume and most likely, gain some sales! It will also give you a warm fuzzy feeling knowing you are donating. Who doesn’t like that feeling you get?

So, if you are interesting, e-mail me at the above mentioned address or click the “Contact Me” below my banner!

Insuring a Leprechaun January 22, 2009

Ok, so the smallest things amuse me. I know you. You know it.

But earlier, I was searching for Irish and Celtic proverbs/quotes to put on my MySpace page. So in Google, I typed “Celtic Quotes”, thinking I’m gonna get tons and tons of websites just for what it is. Nope. Boy was I wrong! The following links were for Celtic Health Insurance. No lie. Goggle “Celtic Quotes” if you don’t believe me!

I was also in a Pagan chatroom at the time and told them of my findings. Most of them were surprised but one had a funny remark to say. Now, if you are brushed up on your Irish characters, we should all know what MAJOR Irish/Celtic character is widely known. He replies with “Does this mean I get to insure my leprechaun?”. As you can imagine everyone in the room starts laughing. I was so tempted to find the paper application for Celtic Health Insurance and put “Leprechaun” as a person to insure.

Can you imagine, though?

Cyber Friend & Me January 11, 2009

This isn’t about the cyber guy who kicked my ass at pool. He’s the one I threw the bowling ball at. This is someone I have known since 2005, when my aunt died. Ever since that time, he’s been there for me through every heart break or everything little stressful thing life throws at me. We’ve become exceptionally close.

You’re probably wondering why I have kept “Cyber Friend” in the shadows instead bringing him into the spotlight. He had his 15 minutes of fame with the bowling ball. Other than that, I’m keeping him to myself. I call him a “cyber friend” because other than the occasional phone call or everyday text, we chat over Yahoo! Messenger.

I have no idea where I was headed with that, but oh well. The last time I saw “Cyber Friend” was oh about 2 months ago. We definitely had a connection and then last week I asked how he felt about me and he said “I care a lot about you and want to spend more time with you”, which just made my heart melt. We talk everyday and get to know each other a little more. He’s coming through town in 2 weeks and wants to take me out just so we can talk. I don’t know where we’re going but me and “cyber friend”… could it be love?

Unfortunately, that is how I feel. My Dad just got back from my relatives’ house to see if we had any gifts from any relatives because we didn’t go over there Christmas Eve. When he came home empty-handed, I felt a sadness come over me. Every year, we atleast get something from our uncle and aunt or even our grandmother. I am not upset at the fact that our cousins get something better than we do every year, but knowing that they didn’t even care to think about us this is heart-wrenching. Forget the economy! We could be in a depression and my relatives would still buy Nintendo DS for our cousin that isn’t even their son.

I thought the idea of having relatives is knowing that they care about you and your immediate family. Christmas is a time to be surrounded by friends, immediate family, and relatives. Unfortunately, my relatives don’t share the same ideals.

Aside from the fact that Christmas Eve was okay and this morning was wonderful, the magic feeling of Christmas just wasn’t there this year. No, I wouldn’t want to start Christmas all over. I just want to get the Holidays over with!

I couldn’t escape it! December 24, 2008

Once again, the twin questions came again. I was chatting online with someone and I said I had a twin sister. I expected him to say something abnormal like “That’s awesome!” or “Very cool!”. No, I was wrong.

Him: Do ya’ll look alike?

Me: (groans) Yea, we look alike. We’re twins!

Him: What’s it like having a twin?

Me: Like having a twin. What’s it like not having a twin?

Him: Are ya’ll close?

Me: Pretty much.

The conversation went downhill from there before he kept asking about having a twin and everything. I know it’s not normal to see twins or hear about having a twin, but after a while, it gets old. I think even when I turn 60, people will be inquiring if we’re twins. I couldn’t escape it and I don’t think I ever will!
