Sometime last week (I think it was Thursday), a “cool” front came through Central Texas. While it isn’t exactly “cool” by any means, except a night, it certainly has made it less hot! We have taken a break from those continuous triple digit highs and are now in the lower to mid 90’s. While most people tend to think that it is still hot while in the 90’s, it is like a sigh of relief for us Texans. After 60+ days with temperatures over 100*, 90’s are a pretty exciting thing!
Last night, around 7 pm, we took Zeus outside to play in his pool. As I stepped outside, it felt like Spring! It wasn’t humid or muggy. It wasn’t unbearably hot. It was so nice and had a little cool breeze blowing through! I didn’t want to go inside. But since Zeus got too excited and wanted to bite, we had to bring him inside. Another exciting factor is that somewhere in Indiana yesterday at like 1PM, they were at 64*! And leaves are starting to fall in other parts of the country. Yippie!
That means Fall is coming sooner (since we had such an early Summer) and that gets me excited! Goodbye flip flops, hello hoodies! While I could live in flip flops, I patiently wait for the day I can get rid of shorts and wear pants, sweaters, and my lovable hoodie. I love the feel of a chilly Fall as it sends a chill up and down my spine. I love the cool wind blowing my long black hair across my face, making my face cool. I love seeing all the trees change color. I love seeing all the little woodland (okay, city woodland) creatures come out and gather their food for the winter. And early Fall also means one thing- an early Winter! That would mean that by the time our birthday rolls around in December, it should be frigid- just like when I was younger!
I cannot tell you how excited I am that Fall is finally coming! Summer was too hot. We had little to no rain. We couldn’t take Zeus out very often (except in the evening) because of the heat so he had a lot of pent up energy in the house. All the cats did was sleep. Maybe now we can take Zeus out a couple of times a day and the cats will start running around like they used to. Yippie! Fall is coming! Fall is coming!
TB Articles: The Summer Heat August 24, 2009Posted by texasheartland in fun, Ideas, learning, life, Seasons, summer, thoughts.

NOTE: I have decided that I am going to start writing “articles” so that my readers don’t get bored with the same posts over and over again. Not only that, it will help me develop better writing skills for when I go to college. If you need more information about the articles, refer to “TB Articles“. If you are interested in becoming a guest writer for Texas Banter, refer to this page.
The temperature is rising over 100*, the sun is burning down from the clouds, and you’re hot- very hot. You’re so hot, you DREAM of the day that cooler weather arrives. Having lived in Texas my whole life, I have become somewhat of an expert on trying to stay cool. While they might not work for everyone, it doesn’t hurt to give it a try, right?
If you’re inside and it seems like your house isn’t cooling as it should, think water. Gather up several plastic water bottles, fill them with water, and put them in the freezer. After 4 hours in the icebox, move them to the fridge and grab one for yourself. You now have cold water available for “on-the-go” and it’s a lot easier than trying to lug a gallon of cold water out of the fridge just to fill up a glass. It becomes so helpful, especially if you’re doing chores and you find yourself getting sweaty. You don’t want to become dehydrated even if you don’t feel hot because the symptoms can be fatigue, and many think that they are tired because of the chores. In most cases, it’s that they are dehydrated. Aside from keeping you hydrated, the cold water will cool your core temperature down a few degrees, and it help you from feeling physically hot.
Since our house doesn’t have insulation, it tends to get burning hot in the Summer and near-dead freezing in the Winter. In the Summer, when the temperature in the room is 83*, I like to use the shower. I don’t mean taking a shower. I mean getting my hair wet by bending over the edge of the tub with my head under the shower. I don’t panic if my clothes get wet because I know that eventually I will end up sitting in front of a fan or air conditioner, making me feel a lot cooler. I suggest that you don’t do it every hour or too frequently because you can end up with a heat rash. While they can be treated by topical baby rash cream, they are kinda painful. Also with that, you can actually get too chilled if your core temperature drops drastically low in such a short amount of time.
I’m sure that I don’t need to remind you what to do if you’re outside- it’s on the news all the time! You know the drill: drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks, if you get too hot, move to an air conditioned building, etc. It’s been ingrained in us since we were little. But another thing they don’t tell you is not to soak your whole body, including your clothes. This will bring on one mean heat rash that is extremely painful. Those are worse than the ones you received from “wetting your hair” too much. Also, the reflection of the sun can intensify the sun’s burning rays, making you sunburn a lot quicker and a lot worse than without the soaked clothes and skin.
Let’s face it- Summer is here for a few more weeks. If none of the suggestions haven’t worked, then maybe we should look to Summer’s best friend- ice cream! Now there’s an activity I can enjoy!
Kitten Cuteness August 17, 2009Posted by texasheartland in Animals, cats, family, fun, funny, kittens, life, random.

I have to say that the kittens (temporarily named Brother and Sister) are thriving and really quick, too!
Brother is what people call a “Mama’s Boy”. He wants to be near Smokie a lot and will whine if Sister or Smokie get out of his line of vision. But he still likes to walk around and play with either Mommy or Sister. Sister, on the other hand, is definitely the more adventurer of the two. She doesn’t give it a second thought about walking around all over the bed or biting Brother. Both of their baby teeth are starting to come in and Brother is actually drinking water- sometimes. He’ll drink a drop and go for nursing. But of course, they’re still in the “need Mommy’s milk” stage. They are walking around for as well as they can. They are still a little wobbly and can’t quite run yet but they’re a bundle of energy.
If they are anything like Smokie was when she was a kitten, they will be Tarzans and Janes. When Smokie was a kitten, she had no problem scaling the curtains and just hanging there. I’ve opted to call one “Monkey” because I thought it was just weird and cute- which is totally me. But Manders said we would have to talk about names. We will most likely end up going with mythology names like we went for with Zeus.
I bet ya’ll want to see how big they’ve gotten, right?
Summertime… May 27, 2009Posted by texasheartland in fall, family, Feelings, life, random, rant, Siblings, sisters, summer, thoughts, twins.

Call me crazy, but I think I am one of those Texans that absolutely hates the Summertime.
Yes, I am not a fan of Summer. When a Texas Summer can reach over 100* every day, all you want to do is sleep in a tub full of ice. It’s too hot to do much of anything outside without being drenched in sweat. Even Zeus and that kitties complain that it’s too hot. I guess if I had fur, I would too.
Then again, I do look forward to a few things every time Summer tolls around. I love the 4th of July fireworks. They’re so beautiful against the Texas sky on a hot Summer night. I also enjoy getting into water fights against Manders with the water hose. EVERY Summer, we have water fights and have been doing so since we were little. It’s a great way to cool off and it’s super fun! We end up getting soaking wet but it’s a small price to pay for family fun!
Other than that, I prefer to stay somewhere there is an air conditioner. If I have to go out, I always have shorts, flip flops, and sunglasses on. I live for the day I can wear flip flops once again. I would wear them 365 days out of the year if I could. I know it’s not exactly stylish but when the temperature reaches 110* in August, you can’t exactly go out in public in your skivvies.
I am counting the day until I can put away the shorts (keeping the flip flops) and put on a sweater. I live for the Fall Season and even though it’s not even June yet, I cannot wait until the first cool front comes through to make my body send chills down my spine and my nose tingle with the scent of Fall. Maybe that’s something to look forward to.
A Twin’s Bond May 18, 2009Posted by texasheartland in family, Feelings, fun, funny, hilarious, humor, life, random, relationships, Siblings, sisters, thoughts, twins.

As I was leaving a comment on Mander’s MySpace profile, I was reminded of the bond I share with her.
A twin’s bond is one of the strongest in the world, if not THE strongest bond. While there are twins that don’t get along, hardly talk, or even hate each other, 95% of the time, they love each other to death. Not only are you born with an instant sibling, you are born with an instant best friend.
While me and Twin might have our arguments, we are never mad at each other for more than from a couple of minutes to a couple of hours. Then as the last second passes, we instantly apologize to each other. We never go to bed angry at each other, though if we ever do, we usually forget it that morning. We even have “play fights” where we exclaim profanities to each other or act like we’re mad just because we’re in a goofy mood. Usually Mom will get into the middle of it and say “Stop fighting!” and we remind her that we are just messing around with each other. We will argue over what CD to listen to in the car or what to watch on TV, but we compromise because we know we will eventually get our turn. Most of the time, we settle for something we both can enjoy.
We can lay a leg or arm over each other while laying down without feeling “too close to personal space” because when you have a twin, you have no personal space. You share the same DNA so why not share personal spaces? You share clothes, food, drinks, and even the bathroom when you’re helping you sister dye her hair purple. We are constantly talking, even if we’re not saying anything aloud. We know each other’s weaknesses as well as strengths. We know that one would prefer Kahn from Kamelot over Jagged Edge. We know when one of us isn’t feeling well, even if we don’t have to say it. We know what each other is thinking (scary thought!) and we still say the same thing at the same time together.
We don’t mind making a fool of ourselves from time to time because we’re twins. We don’t have to have an excuse to say why we are singing “Mr. Roboto” in a restaurant when we’re in a good mood. It may seem immature, but we’re not your average set of twins. We still feel like a kid sometimes and we embrace it- together.
We’re different, don’t get me wrong. But forever will we remain the same as long as our bond remains.
Stepping Outside The Box May 17, 2009Posted by texasheartland in Beauty, family, Feelings, fun, Hair, learning, life, random, Siblings, sisters, thoughts, twins.

If you have been reading since February, you will know that my sister dyed her hair purple. Yes, purple. She doesn’t conform to what society thinks we should look like. So if she enjoys having purple hair (which I personally think looks awesome on her), she will dye her hair purple. Hell, she’s dyed it blue and red before.
A week ago while I was out with Twin and Mom, I started thinking. Why can’t I be like that? I cannot step outside my comfort zone enough to dye my hair an unnatural color and admire Twin that she can do it. So, I thought again. Was there a way I could actually stay within my comfort area while breaking free of the chains society has on me? Yes, there is.
I declared it to Manders and Mom my plan. It will take a couple of months of finish but if everything works out and sissy helps me in every possible way, it should look awesome and reflect my personality to a “T. What is my plan? I plan on putting a little of unnatural color in my hair. I have jet black hair but after a while, it gets so blah looking. I have a vibrant personality so why not let my hair show that part of me? I plan on dying my hair jet black to cover up any dark brown roots showing. Then this summer, I plan on putting red streaks in my hair. Yes, you read that right. Red streaks. If my sister can show she is not afraid to be different, then I shouldn’t either. After all, we are twins. And while we may seem like your next-door twins, people come to find out that in person, we are totally crazy and random. We like to have fun, even if it’s just the 2 of us in the bedroom, throwing balled up paper at each other.
I can’t say how long I will keep the streaks. I guess it’s something I will have to see before I commit to keep the streaks after 6 months. I guess it’s time to finally start stepping outside the box. Can’t stay scared to try new things the rest of my life.

You can ask anyone in my family- there are times I make absolutely no sense!
Yesterday was another one of those times.
Mother and I had driven out to where my Dad works to pick him up (Keep this in mind as you are reading: It’s somewhat of an airport). Sissy didn’t feel like going with us so she stayed home. We arrived a little earlier than we had planned so while we were waiting, I decided to call Manders just to see how she was doing and how Zeus was doing. Not to mention we had a little business to talk about concerning a certain show she does on MySpace. True, we could’ve talked about it before we left or after we got back. But she had just woken up before we left so I wanted her to wake up a little bit before she starts making any promises about the show.
After I had asked her how she was doing or how the dog was doing, we started talking about the show. We were trying to decide when the best morning would be to film it at the park. While we were discussing this, I saw Dad zoom around on a golf cart. Not thinking of how stupid or weird I would sound, as Manders was in mid-sentence, I said “Oh look, there goes Daddy!”. Since I had Manders on speakerphone, you hear her laughing and Mom starts laughing. I immediately apologized and we resumed talks about what day would be best. As I started speaking, I noticed an airplane was coming down to land. Once again, not thinking, I blurted out “Hey, a plane!”. Manders starts laughing again- except a litlte harder this time.
I understand I seem very weird, especially when it comes to things like that. But moments like that seem more fun because they are unscripted and nothing can take away from the beauty of two twins and their mother having laughs because one of the twins can’t concentrate enough to have a decent conversation!
No but seriously, it was fun.

Around 6pm last night, I had awaken from a nap because I woke up a little early that morning. I was hungry as was the rest of the family. We didn’t want anything we had at home (not to mention we hadn’t gone to the store yet) so Mom asked what we wanted for dinner. Manders blurted out “Hamburgers!” but I wasn’t in the mood for burgers.
Somehow I persuaded Mom to let us eat dinner at our favorite Chinese buffet restaurant. They’re food is absolutely delicious!
Dinner started with relatively small talk. Daddy said to Mama that he fixed the toilet and we talked about Zeus. Then somehow, the conversation turned to me, Manders, and how we would parent our future kids! I don’t remember how it started but it didn’t end there!
A couple of minutes pass with little to no conversation. We were more into enjoying the food than talking about things that would seem so mundane. But after we had all gotten dessert, the conversation turned silly between sissy and I. We were discussing what “Thank You” was in Japanese and Chinese:
Sis: “Arigato” is “Thank You” in Japanese, right?
Me: I don’t know. I think so.
After I said that, we softly (but still loud enough for Daddy and Mama to hear us) started singing “Mr. Roboto” by Styx. I’m sure the man sitting by himself in the booth next to us heard the singing. He probably didn’t mind. He got free entertainment.

It has been raining since this morning.
Well, actually it isn’t raining anymore but it had pretty much been raining all day. Why I didn’t think to put on pants instead of wearing shorts, I don’t know. But I have been pretty much in and out of the rain all day in a t-shirt and shorts. And I know you can’t get sick from just being wet, but I think I may have contracted a cold. Naturally, with the swine flu cases, my sister is freaking out that I may have swine flu. Even if I did, the only thing that would have to be done is keep me home-bound. But even with this cold, I probably won’t be getting out much because I don’t want to get other people catch the cold and send them into a frenzy thinking they have swine flu. I don’t want to cause a Central Texas panic just because I have a simple cold (or is it a sinus infection? Huh.). That would make my life a living hell. That would pretty much suck.
I have fallen in love. Not with some other guy (besides Cyber Guy but he already knows. LOL). But with a movie. A movie I have watched over and over agian until I pretty much know what they are going to say or what they are going to do. My new love is “You’ve Got Mail”. Now, I’m not one for Romantic Comedies because of the whole “romantic” part. But because I met Cyber Guy online, it makes a lot of sense. We don’t have meaningful conversations like Kathleen Kelley and Joe Fox do on “You’ve Got Mail” but I do relish the times we have together, for however long they may be. I already know what happens in the movie but my heart beats wildly at the fact that this happens everyday. People sign on, go into some chatroom, have interesting conversations, and eventually end up together. Or perhaps they use no specifics and don’t tell each other their names until they are absolutely sure they can handle everything that will be said. It’s a thought, right?
Maybe the next time I sign into a Yahoo! chatroom, I’ll met some guy and we can exchange e-mails without being at all specific and eventually end up as a couple. Or maybe I’ll just finish watching the movie and move onto the next one borrowed from the local library: Sweeney Todd.

I did not realize that I have a good memory. Well, long-term memory that is.
My mom was saying something about the Colombine anniversary when she started talking about the Branch Dividian raid here in Waco. She wasn’t sure when the raid happened and before I even Googled it, I blurted out “”93″. I immediately said “Wait, I’m not sure.” and decided to double check my answer. I was shocked and amazed. I was right! I was freakin’ right!
I didn’t realize that I had such a good long-term memory. I remember back in Kindergarten or 1st Grade when our local meterologist Rusty Garret came to the school to talk about tornadoes and what to do in the event of a tornado. Surprisingly, I don’t remember much of what he said but I do remember him coming. But through out the years, I didn’t need to remember. When the tornado hit in 2006, I automatically remembered everything I had ever learned before then. It came in handy.
I also remember in elementary (another elementary school) school that we went to a local news station (KXXV for anyone who is curious) for some odd reason. Granted, more than half of the newscasters are no longer there, but it was pretty awesome! Got to see the teleprompter, how they did the weather, and what the news desk looked like. That is something I can still see like pictures in my mind and something I won’t ever forget.
It’s funny how I can remember things I did when I was little but I can’t remember what I did last week. My memory baffles me. Now maybe I can remember what song I am supposed to download.

MidwestMom, someone I have known for years, posted about being a good fur baby mommy to her adorable cat, Merlin. At the end of the post, she left a link about cat furniture and everything to make sure your cat has a palace in your home. Naturally, Smokie thinks she is queen of the house and will practically wake up Patches (whom is sleeping on top of the living room television) and actually make Patches move just so she can sleep ontop of the television. That cat baffles me.
So instead of sleeping at the foot of the bed to be kicked off or right near my head where I get a mouth full of fur, I decided to check out the link MidwestMom left. At CozyCatFurniture, they have some of the coolest stuff I know Patches, Princess, AND Smokie will love! They have everything from Cat Trees, Cat Condos, Cat Beds, and even Cat Houses! These already run ours- they don’t need their own! While they are on the expensive side, I know that one of those condos will come in handy. Maybe they won’t argue over the TV. Instead, they’ll argue over who gets what on the kitty condo. I’d get them a kitty bed but they prefer the box near the window in the bedroom, the TV, on top of the desk, or the bed. They have no problem finding a place to sleep. Just a place to play and fight over.
Maybe a Cat House will come in handy for time outs (yes, the kitties get time out. Have you ever tried to chase a cat that has escaped and one that can run like a cheetah?).

I was nabbed by my good friend Linda at Crone and Bear It for a game of 8 tag. I love stuff like this so you know I’m game!. So here we go:
8 things I’m looking forward to:
1. Start the local community college and off to Georgetown, Texas I go to finish up at Southwestern University for Animal Science!
2. Having my first bloggy giveaway! (Now if only I could hurry up and receive the product I’m supposed to review!)
3. Spring storms to come- remember, I live for these!
4. Zeus getting his harness and new leash so maybe he wouldn’t chew on his leash and pull us.
5. Getting back to where my hair is black all the time (instead of my dark brown roots showing and overtaking my hair!)
6. Having a new car to play with for college!
7. Finally finishing “Fool” by Christopher Moore (late 17th century English slang makes me confused.)
8. Losing a few pounds- what woman doesn’t want to, right?
8 things I did yesterday:
2. Did errands.
3. Give the doggy a bath.
4. Read some.
5. Spent time blogging.
6. Told Manders she was as fun as a “kitten playing with yarn”.
7. Spent time on SuperPoke Pets (my new obsession).
8. TRIED to review a CD on the iPod until I realized not all the songs were on it. (That helps in NO way.)
8 things I wish I could do:
1. Learn how to organize so everything I own isn’t in some random box or all over the desk.
2. Constantly hold bloggy giveaways (because I like to give. LOL)
3. Make a stranger’s day everyday!
4. Learn to speak German. (All I know is enough to say “good day”, “good afternoon”, and “good night”… oh, and my last name (which means “child”.))
5. Vacation in Scotland!
6. Teach Zeus to sit, stay, and “No”.
7. Become well-known in computers so I could build my own.
8. Figure out the secret to men.
8 shows I watch:
1. Bizarre Foods
2. Family Guy
6. Ghost Hunters
7. Weird Travels
8 people I tag:
1. Confetti Dreams
2. Midwest Mom
3. The Good, the Bad, the Ugly
4. Anyone who wants to play
5. Anyone who wants to play
6. Anyone who wants to play
7. Anyone who wants to play
8. And anyone else who wants to play
I obviously don’t have a lot of personal “blogging” friends so I am stuck with figuring out those who do check out my blog. So if any readers want to play, feel free to do so! Now that I have no witty or charming answers- play!
Post your own answers to the questions in each category, including 8 people you want to tag. Have fun!
